Dr. Hawkins holds a doctoral degree in Public Policy and Administration, a master's degree in English, and a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Political Science from Jackson State University. She is a licensed special education teacher in Mississippi and has been certified since 2005. In addition to teaching on the K-12 level, Dr. Hawkins taught for 11 years on the college level, before taking her current role. Her professional certifications include a focus on project management and qualitative research. Her research interests include student pedagogy, American literature, rural and agriculture policy, socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, rural poverty, food insecurity, community-based participatory research, and civic engagement.
